Великий Устюг – один из старейших городов Русского Севера, родина Деда Мороза.

Veliky Ustyug is one of the oldest cities of the Russian North. It is also the homeland of Ded Moroz (Father Frost).

Великий Устюг расположен в 500 (пятистах) километрах к северо-востоку от Вологды. Своё имя он получил от названия устья реки Юг.

Veliky Ustyug is located 500 km north-east from Vologda. It is named after the river Yug and its mouth (rus. ust’ye).

Население – примерно 32 тысячи человек.

Великий Устюг – это популярное туристическое направление. Здесь много исторических зданий –усадеб, церквей, монастырей, купеческих домов. Есть в городе и мастерские , где покажут и расскажут, как плетут вологодское кружево.

Veliky Ustyug is a very popular touristic destination. Here you can find a lot of historical buildings – mansions, churches, monasteries and merchant houses. There are some workshops where you can see how to make the famous Vologda lacein process.

Но, в основном, в Великий Устюг ездят зимой в резиденцию Деда Мороза, которая находится в 12 (двенадцати) километрах от города. Вместе с Дедом Морозом здесь проживают Лесовичок, Сова, Пень Ерофеич и другие сказочные персонажи.

People go to Veliky Ustyug in winter to visit the Ded Moroz residence, which is located 12 km away from the city. Lesovichok (wood goblin), Owl, Pen’(stub) Yerofeich and other fairy-tale characters lived there together with Ded Moroz.

Вотчина у Дедушки Мороза большая, дом – сказочный терем, лес – сосновый бор. Обычно Дед Мороз встречает гостей в Тронном зале, с ним внучка Снегурочка. Недалеко от терема зимой заливают ледяную горку. В Устюге можно покататься на санках, на лошадях, на надувных матрасах и даже на печках. В общем, веселье для всех: и для детей и взрослых.

Ded Moroz has a big estate, his house is a magic terem (tower), and his forest is the pine forest. Ded Moroz and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) meet their guests in the throne room. Not far from the  tower there is an ice slide. You can go sledging, ride a horse, beach mattresses and even an oven. So, it is fun for everyone, both for children and adults.
